What is Counselling - Therapy?
Discover the Essence of Counselling - Therapy
Therapy, also known as counselling, is a collaborative process where a therapist listens attentively and supports you in navigating various aspects of your experiences. It encompasses a wide range of challenges, such as problematic behaviors, beliefs, emotions, relationship dynamics, and somatic responses within your body. Embarking on therapy can be a significant stride towards embracing your healthiest self and living a fulfilling life, irrespective of the obstacles you encounter. Through the therapeutic journey, you gain the opportunity to explore self-destructive patterns, heal emotional wounds, cultivate healthier relationships, and more.
However, it's important to note that my approach to therapy deviates from the typical. In my practice, I strongly incorporate elements of Breathwork, Mindfulness, and body-based interventions. These modalities ground you in the present moment, allowing you to tune into your authentic feelings rather than fixating solely on thoughts about your emotions. I strive to help you recognise that relying solely on "thinking" to solve problems and attain happiness may have fallen short. In fact, it might have left you feeling disheartened. Often, we overlook a fundamental truth - that we have been neglecting our internal state all along. Engaging in incessant intellectualisation and analysis of our issues serves as a convenient escape from genuinely experiencing our emotions, staying with them, and cultivating self-love amidst their presence. This is where I step in and introduce an alternative approach to therapy and counselling that can yield remarkable benefits.
Together, we embark on a transformative journey that transcends conventional talk therapy. By integrating Breathwork, Mindfulness, and body-focused practices, we unlock new insights and facilitate profound growth. This approach fosters a deeper connection with yourself, explores the wisdom of your body, and paves the way for transformative healing and self-acceptance.
Welcome to a therapeutic path that honors the power of feelings and nurtures a compassionate relationship with yourself. With a fresh perspective on therapy and counselling, we open doors to lasting change and well-being.
Recognising when Therapy & Counselling can be helpful
Understanding when seeking the assistance of a counsellor may be beneficial is an important step towards nurturing your well-being.
Counselling and therapy sessions are diverse, reflecting the unique needs of individuals seeking support. People from all walks of life turn to counsellors and therapists for various reasons. It could be prompted by a specific issue or problem they aim to resolve, or during times of crisis.
These issues may range from traumatic incidents to anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, grief, struggles with addiction, or a general sense of exhaustion and confusion about the next steps in life. Keep in mind that you don't need a specific reason to engage in counselling. Sometimes, a simple desire to talk and seek support is enough.
Counselling might be beneficial for you if you have been grappling with a persistent concern or difficulty for an extended period, and you find it challenging to navigate on your own. If your well-being is being significantly impacted, resulting in depression, anxiety, or stress, seeking counselling can provide valuable support and guidance. However, it's important to remember that you don't need to justify or validate your need for counselling. If you feel the need to talk or seek support, that in itself is a valid reason to engage in counselling.
Reaching out for help is a courageous step towards prioritising your mental and emotional well-being. Counselling offers a safe space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and challenges with the guidance and support of a professional. It's an opportunity to gain insight, and foster personal growth.
If you resonate with any of the above and feel the need for support, don't hesitate to explore the option of counselling. Your well-being matters, and reaching out is the first step towards a more fulfilling and balanced life.
4 sign’s that it might be time to see a Therapist Counsellor
Ongoing significant stress impacting your life: If anxiety, stress, depression, or other concerns are causing significant distress and interfering with your ability to function and focus, it may be a sign that professional support is needed.
Previous methods haven't worked: If you've tried various methods to address your challenges, such as counselling or other modalities, but haven't experienced lasting effects or improvements, seeking the help of a therapist/counsellor can provide a fresh perspective and new strategies for positive change.
Overuse of substances or unhealthy coping mechanisms: If you find yourself relying excessively on substances, addictive behaviors, or other unhealthy coping mechanisms to alleviate distress, it's important to recognise when these patterns become problematic and seek professional guidance to develop healthier strategies for managing stress.
Feeling misunderstood or lacking support: If you struggle to find understanding and empathy from others when discussing your experiences, and feel like they project their own biases or judgment onto your situation, it can be beneficial to seek therapy. A therapist/counsellor provides a non-judgmental and supportive space where you can freely express yourself and receive the understanding you need.
Whether you're facing depression, anxiety, relationship issues, addiction, trauma, career challenges, or simply searching for purpose in life, counselling and therapy offer valuable treatments for the difficulties we encounter. You don't have to navigate these struggles alone. Seeking the support of a therapist/counsellor can provide the guidance and tools you need to navigate life's challenges and enhance your overall well-being. Remember, reaching out for help is a brave and empowering step towards self-care and personal growth.
Isn't it more beneficial to solve my problems independently?
It is natural to question whether it is better to address your challenges on your own. However, it is important to understand that seeking the support of a therapist or counsellor does not mean they will solve your problems for you. Instead, their role is to provide guidance, support, and expertise to help you clarify and navigate your issues, empowering you to solve problems autonomously.
Therapy is designed to enhance your self-awareness and self-sufficiency, rather than fostering dependency. A skilled therapist or counsellor creates a safe and non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. They offer insights, alternative perspectives, and effective strategies to facilitate your growth and personal development. Through this collaborative process, you gain the tools and understanding necessary to tackle challenges and make positive changes in your life.
Working with a therapist or counsellor provides an invaluable opportunity for self-reflection, self-discovery, and building resilience. They empower you to tap into your own inner resources, strengths, and wisdom. While they offer support, it is ultimately you who takes the steps towards solving problems, making decisions, and achieving personal growth.
Remember, seeking professional guidance is a courageous choice that demonstrates a commitment to your well-being and personal development. It is a partnership where you actively engage in the process of change, with the therapist serving as a trusted guide along the way.
So, if you find yourself grappling with challenges or seeking clarity, consider the support of a therapist or counsellor. They can provide the guidance and tools to empower you on your journey of self-discovery and problem-solving, leading to greater self-awareness, resilience, and personal growth.

At our first counselling session, I want to assure you that you won't be treated like a number or put into a predetermined box. Instead, we will embark on a unique and personalised journey together. From there, we will delve into your response and let the conversation naturally unfold.
The initial first session lays the foundation for our work together and allows us to start building a therapeutic relationship.
During our conversation, you will have the opportunity to explore and express what is happening for you. There is no predetermined set of steps or formula that we follow. How often should I see a counsellor?
The frequency of counselling sessions is a personal choice, and it ultimately depends on your needs and preferences. However, I would recommend, especially in the beginning, attending weekly or fortnightly sessions to build momentum and make significant progress. It provides a consistent and supportive space for you to embark on a deep exploration of yourself and gain a deeper understanding of what drives and influences your life. This journey of self-inquiry and self-discovery can be truly fascinating.
Regular sessions allow us to delve into your experiences, thoughts, emotions, and patterns with greater depth and continuity. They create a container for exploration and growth, providing a safe and supportive environment for you to engage in the therapeutic process.
That being said, the decision of session frequency ultimately rests with you. I respect your autonomy and encourage you to determine what best suits your individual circumstances and needs. Some individuals may choose to continue with weekly or fortnightly sessions throughout their therapeutic journey, while others may gradually transition to less frequent appointments as they progress and achieve their desired outcomes.
Remember, counselling is a collaborative process, and I am here to support and guide you along the way. Together, we will establish a rhythm and frequency that supports your growth, fosters your curiosity, and allows for a meaningful exploration of all aspects of your life.
Whether you choose weekly, fortnightly, or another session frequency, I am committed to walking alongside you on this fascinating journey of self-discovery and personal transformation.
